Visions Gala Raises $372,000 for Intensive Care Unit

VICTORIA, B.C.— The community contributed near-record dollars to health care in Victoria last night, raising more than $372,000 at the 19th annual Visions gala. The sold-out, 300-person, black-tie event held at the Fairmont Empress raised funds through ticket sales, live and silent auctions, a teddy bear raffle, cash donations, and in-kind sponsorship.

Doctor Becomes Patient Needing Intensive Care
November 3, 2009
VICTORIA, B.C.— Dr. Terrance Paul, a physician who works in the intensive care unit (ICU) at both Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals, today thanked staff and physicians for saving his life. Dr. Paul fell ill from a life-threatening pneumonia two years ago and found himself in the position of a patient being cared for in the ICU, the unit he works in on a daily basis.

Victoria Hospital Foundation Announces New Board of Directors

VICTORIA, B.C.— The Victoria Hospitals Foundation announced today that its new board of directors for the 2009-10 term includes five new members as well as a new chair. Dwane Ford (RBC Dominion Securities), Alan Lowe (former mayor of Victoria), Terrance Swan (Jones Emery Hargreaves Swan), Dr. Dorothy Williams (Vancouver Island Health Authority), and John Williams (hotelier, retired) begin their one-year terms immediately, and Starr McMichael (Starrboard Enterprises) will serve as chair.

EDS Charity Golf Classic Raises $35,000 for Fetal Heart Monitor

VICTORIA, B.C.— The Victoria Hospitals Foundation announced today it has received $35,000 in funds raised through the 12th Annual EDS, and HP company Charity Golf Tournament at Royal Colwood Golf Course on September 11th. EDS, an HP company, is donating funds for specialized equipment for the maternity unit at Victoria General Hospital.

VolleyPalooza Serves Up Fun in the Sun!

VICTORIA, B.C.— Children in hospital will benefit from some fun and games next weekend when the third annual VolleyPalooza tournament gets underway. VolleyPalooza is an outdoor volleyball tournament open to players of all ages and skill levels. While the players compete and enjoy themselves, the underlying purpose is raising funds for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation in support of the Pediatric Department at Victoria General Hospital and also to increase community awareness about the specialized hospital care provided here for sick and injured children from all over Vancouver Island.

2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Supports the Victoria Hospitals Foundation

VICTORIA, B.C.— The Victoria Hospitals Foundation is very honoured to have been named the charity of choice for the fundraising activities planned for the upcoming 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the women's national curling championships to be held February 21 – March 1 in Victoria. The goal is to provide specialty medical equipment for premature or ill newborn babies at Victoria General Hospital.
