Victoria Hospitals Foundation Announces New Board of Directors

VICTORIA, B.C. — The Victoria Hospitals Foundation announced today that its board of directors for the 2010-2011 term includes four new members. Rick Anthony (Victoria Police Department), Manjit Bains (Consumer Protection BC), Kim Hesketh (retired, Rogers Broadcasting), and Gordon Macatee (former deputy minister of Health Services) begin their three-year terms immediately. Starr McMichael - who's been a member of the board since 2005 - returns for her second term as board chair.

Victoria Hospitals Foundation to Rake in Funds Through the Shoppers Drug Mart Tree of Life Campaign

VICTORIA, B.C. — The Victoria Hospitals Foundation and Shoppers Drug Mart are partnering in an effort to raise funds to advance women's whole health in Victoria through the ninth annual Tree of Life campaign. The four-week fundraising campaign, running from September 18th through October 15th at over 1,180 Shoppers Drug Mart Stores, will harvest essential funding to support breast health care at Victoria General Hospital.

VICTORIA, B.C. — Today the Victoria Hospitals Foundation launched its 2010 spring campaign to raise funds towards the purchase of a $396,000 hematology cell counter for Laboratory Medicine at Royal Jubilee Hospital. This sophisticated medical equipment benefits almost all hospital patients and guides the doctor’s decisions around diagnosis and ongoing treatment of a broad spectrum of patient care from cancer to trauma.

Sovereign Order of St John Donates $187,000 through the Living Spaces Project

VICTORIA, B.C. — Today the Victoria Hospitals Foundation announced that more than $187,000 has been raised to assist mentally ill clients in Victoria through the Living Spaces project.
To date 191 mental health clients have been helped since the Sovereign Order of St. John, Victoria Commandery, launched its Living Spaces project in December 2007. Through this program, clients entering either VIHA's transitional housing program or receiving services through the downtown Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams are provided with the necessities of life such as beds, pillows, bedding and mattresses which they can keep as they move towards more independent living.

Canadian Tire Fix-A-Heart Campaign Raises Record Amount for Cardiac Care

VICTORIA, B.C. — Shoppers at local Canadian Tire stores gave more than ever through the annual Fix-A-Heart campaign during the 2009 Christmas season, raising $81,000 for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation and making this Canadian Tire's most successful campaign to date. Proceeds from this give-at-the-till campaign support the Heart Health Program at Royal Jubilee Hospital.
