Patients needing Emergency and Trauma Care range from people with lacerations or broken bones to people with critical illnesses or severe injuries. Whether faced with major trauma or a cut on a child's finger, Emergency Department physicians and staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital and Victoria General Hospital are committed to ensuring patients receive compassionate, quality care in as short a time as possible.
These hospitals operate two of the three busiest emergency rooms on Vancouver Island. Both hospitals provide care to residents of the south Vancouver Island region in emergency situations, as well as specialized care for people from elsewhere on the Island. Royal Jubilee Hospital’s Emergency Department is a cardiac, vascular, and psychiatric referral centre for Vancouver Island.
Victoria General Hospital is Vancouver Island’s trauma centre and the base for the air ambulance service. Its Emergency Department is where people are brought for critical treatment when a major accident occurs anywhere on the Island. Additionally, this hospital is the Island’s neurosciences and pediatric specialty hospital, as well as the referral centre for victims of sexual assault in the south Island region.
