MATERNITY & PEDIATRIC CARE

Giving makes us all better

Maternity & Pediatric Care Maternity & Pediatric Care is provided at Victoria General Hospital, where every year about 3,500 babies are born and specialized pediatric care is delivered to more than 14,000 babies, children, and teenagers from all regions of Vancouver Island.

Victoria General Hospital is Vancouver Island’s pediatric specialty hospital. More than 90 per cent of sick and injured children on the Island who need hospital care are treated here for a variety of concerns ranging from a broken arm to more serious conditions such as cancer.

Our hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit every year treats about 300 severely injured or critically ill babies, children, and teenagers who require one-to-one care 24 hours a day. There are only two dedicated Pediatric Intensive Care Units in British Columbia.

The specialized Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides high-level care to about 500 premature or critically ill newborn babies every year from all over the province. Victoria General’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is one of only three Level 3 NICUs in B.C., providing the widest range of advanced care to the tiniest and sickest infants.
