Seniors Health
Seniors Health services include geriatric hospital care, which is provided through specialized units at Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals on either an inpatient or an outpatient basis, depending on the patients’ needs.

Both the inpatient and the outpatient programs offer physiotherapy and rehabilitation to restore elderly patients to their optimal level of function. Hospital staff work with patients and their families to establish a discharge plan so they can return home with access to appropriate supports. Royal Jubilee has a specialized geriatric psychiatry unit, which provides treatment on an inpatient and an outpatient basis. A dedicated unit at Victoria General provides care for seniors aged 75 and older who have multiple medical problems and complex functional issues.

Seniors are the fastest-growing segment of the Canadian population — and generally a medically high-needs demographic. The Vancouver Island Health Authority region has a significantly older population than both British Columbia and Canada as a whole, adding to the need to support this area of care.
