The emcee for Visions 2009 is the charming Michael O'Connor, who returns to our event for the fourth year running.
Michael is a senior partner in the law firm McConnan Bion O'Connor and Peterson, and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2006. Recently he became an adjunct professor at the University of Victoria's School of Nursing. He is also currently vice president of the British Columbia Government House Foundation and on the advisory board for the Victoria School of Nursing.
His past community involvement includes several executive positions with various sports bodies at the local, provincial, and national levels. He is past vice chair of the 1994 Commonwealth Games, past president of the James Bay Rugby Association, president of the B.C. Rugby Union, vice president of the Canadian Rugby Union, and past chair of the board for the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame. He was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal and named Citizen of the Year in 1999 for his volunteer work within the community. Born and raised in Victoria, he attended the University of Victoria for his bachelor's degree and received his law degree from the University of British Columbia.
We are grateful for Michael's ongoing support. As well as hosting Visions as emcee, he is a past chair of our board of directors (1997 - 2000) and was also chair of our highly successful capital campaign Together We Care, which wrapped in 2004 after raising more than $17 million for hospitals on southern Vancouver Island.
