Now more than ever, YOU can equip our hospital teams with the critical tools they need today.
YOUR support will expand and enhance critical care capacity in Victoria now and into the future.

TRANSFORM CARE. DONATE TODAY.

Thank You Seaspan Victoria Shipyards and The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation for Your Transformational $2.65 Million Gift to It’s Critical

In support of our hospital heroes—our front lines—help raise $7 million to nearly double critical care capacity at Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH).

Your help is critical now. It’s critical for the future.

Equipment today.

$1 million immediately for urgently-needed critical care equipment in response to COVID-19.

  • Eight new critical care beds for an interim High Acuity Unit at Royal Jubilee Hospital
  • Eight new patient monitors and a central monitoring station
  • A new ultrasound dedicated to the interim High Acuity Unit
  • A continuous renal replacement therapy machine (CRRT)
  • Two flexible bronchoscopes

Greater capacity tomorrow.

$6 million builds a new, permanent 8-bed High Acuity Unit—a first for Island Health. More patients cared for and closely monitored, when they need it most.

  • A first for Vancouver Island—a High Acuity Unit has been a long-held priority for Island Health
  • Architectural and construction planning are in priority development
  • Caregiver hiring and training has begun
  • High Acuity Units are an intermediary step between Intensive Care and Acute Care

From the front lines: What will our first HAU mean for our caregivers and patients?

IT’S CRITICAL — DONATE TODAY

High Acuity Units—an investment in critical care.

At the moment, when patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) start to improve, there is no transitional unit between the ICU and acute inpatient unit where patients continue to be closely monitored. High Acuity Units (HAUs) serve patients recovering from surgery, severe respiratory distress, or being treated for other serious medical conditions.

Without HAUs, the pressure placed on adjacent departments—like inpatient units and Emergency Departments—is heightened when our hospitals respond to threats like COVID-19.

It’s Critical will fund a new 8-bed High Acuity Unit for Royal Jubilee Hospital. A first on Vancouver Island and for Island Health.

Your can transform healthcare for patients fighting for their lives. Today, and tomorrow.

COVID-19 is an unprecedented threat to our health and community. It’s unlike anything we’ve faced before. But in Victoria, thanks to your help and generous support,
we’re prepared to act now.
