As a result, Royal Jubilee and Victoria General hospitals combined see over 120,000 emergency department visits per year. Because of the potentially life-threatening nature of every case, and wide range of patient illnesses & injuries, these units must be adequately equipped to provide initial treatment to every patient, 24 hours a day.
