Dr. Paul Winston is an internationally-respected researcher & clinician based here in Victoria. His innovative treatment method for spasticity — a neurological condition which causes muscles to painfully contract — has been able to restore mobility and quality of life for many patients like Cynthia. This treatment, known as cryoneurolosis, provides relief that is longer-lasting and less expensive than any other option to date.

The Health Equity Initiative is a partnership of VHF and Island Health, funded by the Victoria Foundation, to develop projects that advance health equity and eliminate health disparities by improving outcomes and access to health care services for equity-deserving groups. Projects will create new health knowledge or evidence, and apply existing knowledge or evidence in innovative ways to advance equity. Affected populations will share their lived experiences in the planning, research, and evaluation process.
The Neil and Susan Manning Cognitive Health Initiative is an innovative clinical research program that integrates leading-edge research and care for patients living with cognitive health issues on Vancouver Island. By embedding research into care, clinicians can offer new and targeted treatment options to patients, and continuously improve treatment and prognosis for patients and their families.
