Victoria Hospitals Foundation applauds local Save-On-Foods stores for surpassing a $300,000, three-year-pledge to critical care

Save-On-Foods is being celebrated by the Victoria Hospitals Foundation (VHF) as a champion of critical care needs in our hospitals. In 2020, they pledged a transformative $300,000 gift over three years to advance care on Vancouver Island—when the pledge ended in December 2023, they had raised over $305,000 in support of critical care.

Eight local stores were part of the fundraising drive, which involved donations at the till, barbecues, and draws. The employee-led campaign saw each store creating team names and competing four times a year to see which location could raise the most funds for VHF.

“At Save-On-Foods, we are proud to support our communities and the causes that are important to our customers and our team members,” says Roger Junker, regional director for Save-On-Foods stores on Vancouver Island. “We are so proud of the support our customers and team members showed the Victoria Hospitals Foundation throughout Heart Month in February. Every dollar donated makes a difference in our pledge to support local experts to provide critical healthcare needs for everyone who calls Vancouver Island home.”

Since 2019, Save-On-Foods has raised just over $407,000 in support of VHF. That year, they launched an employee-led, at-the-till campaign to fundraise for the Foundation’s campaign at the time, You Are Vital: Pediatrics. Then, in 2020, they pledged the $300,000 gift over three years to support critical care.

“Save-On-Foods employees uniting with customers in the name of our hospitals is a great example that we are all better when the community comes together to lift up our hospitals and care teams,” says Avery Brohman, Chief Executive Officer, Victoria Hospitals Foundation. “The impact the stores, their employees, and their customers have is far-reaching and provides so much more than equipment; the caregivers feel a great amount of encouragement and motivation when they see themselves represented in local stores. It is a beautiful testament of the community coming together, to support one another.”

VHF is grateful to have a partner like Save-On-Foods, which shares our values and vision of keeping our communities healthy. In January, members of the VHF team met with Save-On-Foods employees, including local cashiers, for a tour of the Royal Jubilee Hospital to share the incredible impact of their giving. Additionally, the eight Save-On-Foods stores that were part of the pledge have been gifted a plaque in recognition of their dedication to VHF and their communities.
