Surgical Evolution: The Next Leap Forward

Avery’s Letter

Avery Brohman, CEO of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, in Royal Jubilee HospitalOur Foundation continues to embark on bolder journeys for RJH and VGH. In partnership with our remarkable care teams, we’re building campaigns that grow alongside the evolving needs of local healthcare. Our vision to harness innovative technologies, expand capacity, and transform patient care is coming to life.

Two years ago, we upgraded six of the busiest imaging machines on the Island and equipped our MRIs with the best AI imaging technology in Canada. Last year, we brought 50 new surgical tools and a surgical robotics program to the Island to elevate minimally-invasive surgery. This is a first for Island Health, dramatically reducing complications and improving healing time. Our system becomes stronger when patients are healthier. We deserve access to the best care—and philanthropy makes it all possible.

Now, our evolution continues. With the expansion of our robotics program, we’re advancing surgical care across women’s health, general surgery, ENT, brain and spine. Our surgical oncologists have selected 60 pieces of equipment that will bring new cancer treatments forward. Victoria is poised to become a leader in surgical innovation—not just in Western Canada, but beyond. We’ve proven that working in partnership with our donors is making a difference Island-wide. We’re proud to be stewarding a transformational gift of $7.5 million. This local philanthropist is matching all campaign donations, offering everyone the chance to contribute to something larger than ourselves.
