As A Patient

Transport & Parking

  • If you are in need of ambulance assistance, call 911
  • Emergency department parking is located in Lot H off of Watkiss Way, just past the Emergency Department entrance.
  • Public parking is available along the front of the hospital off Hospital Way, outside of the main entrance.
  • BC Transit offers bus service to Victoria General Hospital by lines 14, 22, & 53
  • If you are having difficulty arranging transport or have a long journey, you may be eligible for travel assistance through Island Health.

Checking-In

  • If you are in need of urgent care, call 911 or visit the Victoria General Emergency Department. Find estimated emergency wait times here. Wait times may vary based on the severity of your condition.
  • For scheduled admissions, check-in at the patient admitting desk at the main (south) entrance.
  • For Medical Imaging appointments, check in at the Medical Imaging Desk, down the hall from the main (south) entrance, past the gift shop.
  • Check-in locations may vary. Be sure to confirm the check-in location provided through your referral/requisition and plan to arrive early to ensure you can find your appointment location on-time and stress-free.
  • When in doubt, visit the patient admitting desk at the main (south) entrance.

As A Visitor

If you feel unwell or have any respiratory symptoms, please do not visit our facilities.

  • Bicycle parking is available around the Victoria General campus

Arrival

  • Enter through the main (south) entrance.
  • A directory of which units are on each floor is posted near the main entrance. If you are unsure of where to go, check in at the admissions desk, just inside the main doors, or ask a staff member.

During Your Visit

  • Let staff on the unit know you have arrived before entering the patient’s room.
  • Wash or sanitize your hands before entering and exiting patient rooms
  • Check in with the unit before bringing gifts or personal items for the patient. Some units have restrictions on items such as flowers and balloons.

Amenities

  • For food and beverages, Victoria General Hospital is home to a Good Earth Coffee on the main floor, as well as a cafeteria with lunchtime offerings on the ground floor. Vending machines are also present on some floors.
  • A volunteer-run gift shop is located in the main floor hallway. All profits are donated back to Victoria General Hospital to fund vital equipment, patient and family services, and caregiver support.
