You have the leadership and long-term vision to make a gift of health for future generations.

AN ESTATE GIFT IS POWERFUL

It allows you to potentially give more than at any other time in your life. It demonstrates commitment to the kind of patient care future generations will receive in our hospitals. It leaves a legacy that could help thousands in your community for years to come.

Estate gifts are special to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation and we are always touched by the thoughtfulness of people who include our hospitals in their planning

ESTATE GIVING

Anyone with a desire to give has the ability to leave a legacy with an estate gift to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation. This does not require great wealth. It only requires great planning.

Planned giving means making a charitable gift that maximizes your tax and financial benefits. You can decide if the gift is one-time, a series of payments or ongoing support.

Estate gifts help the Victoria Hospitals Foundation make significant equipment contributions to the Royal Jubilee and Victoria General hospitals for all areas of care. They benefit thousands of people who use these hospitals from across Vancouver Island. In fact, contributions from estate gifts fund one-third of our equipment purchases each year, and funding education and research are also options. This is because estate gifts allow donors to give some of the largest gifts they may ever make.

While many of our donors make gifts through bequests in their Will, there are other options such as gifts of life annuities, life insurance and real estate.  The elimination of capital gains tax on gifts of publicly traded securities and stocks makes this another beneficial option.

ESTATE GIVING OPTIONS

Charitable Bequests

Assets such as cash, retirement savings, property, mutual funds, stocks and securities can be bequeathed or transferred to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation.

Charitable Remainder Trust

You can make a gift by placing assets such as cash, securities or real estate in an irrevocable trust to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation. You receive income from the trust for the rest of your life, and a charitable receipt is issued for the present value of the remainder trust.

Charitable Gift Annuity

Annuities provide an opportunity to set aside a gift of capital for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation while enabling you to receive a stream of income during your lifetime.

Gift of Life Insurance

Designating the Victoria Hospitals Foundation as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy can provide a substantial gift in the future for a relatively low cost each year.

HOW TO MAKE GIFTS THROUGH A BEQUEST

A charitable bequest through your Will provides a future gift while allowing you to retain full control of your property. Plus, a bequest can be used to reduce tax owed by your estate.

If you have an interest in a planned gift to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, we recommend you discuss the idea with your financial or legal advisors and our staff before drafting or making changes to your Will.

The Victoria Hospitals Foundation respectfully requests that lawyers bear in mind the Foundation’s need for flexibility when advising clients. Where a client prefers to designate the gift for an existing need, the Board asks that the gift include a power to vary the purpose of the gift in the event the stated purpose of the gift is no longer practicable.

If you are a professional advisor and you have a client who would like to leave a bequest to Victoria Hospitals Foundation, please pass on our sincere appreciation.
