Together, Our Impact Is Being Felt

Your support helps our hospitals acquire equipment more quickly and ensures our healthcare teams have the state-of-the-art tools and technology they need to provide the best possible patient care.

In 2024/25, more than $24.2 million was raised from over 5,635 donors to bring innovation to the forefront of patient care in Victoria. Since 1989, the Foundation has raised over $233 million to benefit Vancouver Island’s acute care hospitals, which serve the region’s 930,000+ residents. Get the full story in our most recent annual report.

It’s Time For Surgical Innovation

In the fall of 2024, the Foundation undertook phase I of our largest equipment campaign to date, raising an impressive $17 million, which brought a first-on-the-Island surgical robot to Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH) along with over 50 pieces of specialized equipment across both RJH and Victoria General Hospital (VGH) that our surgical teams asked us for. These surgical innovations opened up avenues for procedures that had never before been possible on Vancouver Island, and led our hospitals into a new era of minimally invasive surgery. With this new technology, patients that previously would have required days or weeks of post-op care can now go home within 24 hours, providing easier healing journeys, and decompressing our healthcare system.

Imaging Is Power

In the spring of 2023, VHF launched an ambitious $11 million campaign in support of medical imaging at Royal Jubilee & Victoria General hospitals. The initiative was sparked by a group of local Radiologists, lead by Medical Director of Imaging, Dr. Alan Andrews, and aimed to replace six aging machines: three MRI machines, a CT scanner, a SPECT-CT scanner, and a C-Arm imaging device. These imaging tools are the workhorses of our hospitals & were all 13-22 years old. Their new & refurbished replacements provide improved wait times, enhanced scan clarity, and better patient outcomes in our Victoria hospitals.

Emerge Stronger

In October 2021, the foundation launched our largest philanthropic campaign in nearly a decade with one specific goal in mind: to help our care teams Emerge Stronger from the pandemic. This campaign was split into three phases, Recovery, Local Care, & Innovation, each with its own focus as we move forward alongside our hospitals. We committed to funding $10 million to operationalize over 200 pieces of priority equipment for Royal Jubilee, Victoria General, and Gorge Road hospitals — equipment our caregivers specifically asked for.

Equipped to Heal

In 2021, prompted by the community’s request for more mental health services, the Foundation launched a $1 million campaign, Equipped to Heal, to enhance mental health and substance use services in the Eric Martin Pavilion at Royal Jubilee Hospital. The campaign aimed to fund a new level of care, the Mental Health & Substance Use Sub-Acute Unit—and help reduce patient readmission rates. Equipped to Heal also funded specialized rehabilitation beds, medication dispensers, a treatment room, research, and other high-priority needs.

It’s Critical

In 2020, in response to the challenges of COVID-19 and tomorrow’s healthcare needs, the Foundation launched a $7 million campaign, It’s Critical, to expand critical care capacity at Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH). The first $1 million raised immediately purchased critical care equipment to increase critical care capacity and equip a temporary High Acuity Unit (HAU) at Royal Jubilee Hospital. The additional $6 million will support the imminent construction of a new permanent High Acuity Unit at Royal Jubilee Hospital, a first for Island Health.

The Big Picture

Launched at Visions 2019, The Big Picture was the most ambitious annual campaign the Foundation had undertaken up to that point. Raising $4 million for priority leading-edge imaging equipment at Royal Jubilee and Victoria General hospitals, The Big Picture funded equipment that included a CT scanner, 3T MRI, and ultrasound equipment. This equipment advances healthcare and allows our local caregivers to go beneath the surface to quickly assess what is happening inside a patient’s body.

Please be proud of what your generosity is making real. The impact is undeniable…Thank you for helping shape that future for our community.
