A Local High Acuity Patient Shares Her Thanks

Celebrating the Seaspan Victoria Shipyards High Acuity Unit

The new permanent HAU will be named in recognition of Seaspan Victoria Shipyards and the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation’s transformational $2.65 million gift to It’s Critical.

From L–R: Tom Siemens, Former Board Chair, Victoria Hospitals Foundation; Avery Brohman, Executive Director, Victoria Hospitals Foundation; Joe O’ Rourke, Vice President & General Manager, Seaspan Victoria Shipyards; Heather-Ann Heyd, Clinical Nursing Lead for the HAU; Carrie Homuth, Manager for the HAU; Dr. Omar Ahmad, Department Head, Emergency and Critical Care Medicine for Island Health

Well before the pandemic, we had heard of the importance of adding a High Acuity Unit to the Island. With the threat of COVID 19 came the opportunity to operationalize the project. It is highly powerful and rewarding to realize this important strategic priority in just over a year. Its impact will be felt well into the future.
